Fun Summer Project with mail

WEEKEND PROJECT IDEA FROM MUNKIY CLOTHING…For Those of you with children 3 years and older, here’s a quick fun little project. At the toddler age, your child experiences the concept of mail. His or her experiences may come from either tagging along with you to get it or learning about it in school. You may have even been asked where mail comes form or where it goes. Take your child’s curiosity to the next level by mounting a wall mounted mailbox on the outside of his or her bedroom door. It will be a perfect addition right before Summer. Your child will want to share his or her experiences with a friend, a cousin, grandparents and possibly even Santa. Photos of experiences can be attached to letters or drawings. And when your child receives return mail, it makes the project that much more fun. Drop any mail addressed to them in their personal mailbox for them to retrieve and open themselves. For the older children, at 4+ years, take it a step further and help them create an address book with pictures. They will be able to find who they want to send their letter to and address it themselves. And now they can practice their writing skills!!

munkiy 03/05/2008 daily banana - don't forget to wash the hands

Just a reminder to have your little one wash his or her hands after potty time as they tend to run off after doing their duty on the throne. Oh yeah... don't forget your own hands.

munkiy 03/04/2008 daily banana - washing hands

Potty training is, in my opinion, one of the dirtiest (if not the dirtiest) parts of raising a child. WASH little one's hands!!!, especially when they start touching the toilet to put down the seat or flush the toilet. Make hand washing entertaining. We use the purple hippo soap that flashes a red light for about 20 seconds. When the light stops, it's rinse time!

disclaimer for munkiy bananas

munkiy posts "daily advice" (posted most every day) called "daily bananas" in their blog. The author of these postings is obviously not a professional and is only giving advice based on experience.

munkiy 02/28/2008 daily banana - toddler help

At the toddler stage, your little one is going to want to do many things on their own or want to help with many things. For the dangerous ones like lighting the fireplace or cutting onions, you don't let him do and some good explanation would rememdy a fit. But as far as opening doors, putting on clothes, inserting the straw into the chocolate milk box, helping with the laundry, pretending to help with the dishes, etc......TRY not to get caught up with getting angry just because the simple task time is extended sometimes ten fold. With so little time in the day, I think most of us have been there and will continue to be there every now and again. But try to keep in mind that there is a little mind that needs to experience and learn.

To help you keep your car clean and save yourself from a temper explosion, empty the sand out of your child's shoes when you pick him up from preschool.

munkiy 02/26/2008 daily banana

If your little one goes to preschool, try making the trip to the school fun and entertaining by asking him to help you find the school. On the way, point to other buildings and structures and ask him if that's the school. He will be amused that you don't know what the school looks like and he will make a mission out of finding it for you. You may get an added bonus of getting corrected. "No, that's the fire truck's house."

munkiy 02/25/2008 daily banana

If you live in a multi-level unit or house, please remember to lock your toddler gates. Think back to try to remember how many times you've left it unlocked without incident. That's how many times you've gotten lucky.

Kaiser Permanente -WTF

Health insurance is a must. I agree.............. but when is it a waste of money? Sign up with Kaiser Permanente and you're there. In our experience, there is no dedicated doctor for you and your family. You take whoever is there. I guess that's fine if they all communicated everything about every patient that came to see them, especially when the doctor you see tells you to come back the next day for a follow up.

We have a son who is a year and a half. Recently he was very sick and had a fever hitting the 104 degree mark, so my wife took him to the Doctor. She met with one of the physicians that was working that day. My wife was there for most of the day, which is fine since they ran a few tests. It was concluded that our son had Croup, but the fever was unusual to the doctor, so she told my wife to bring him back the next day to go over the test results. Ok fine. Thank you for all of your help doc. We appreciate it.

We show up the next day to find out that the doctor we saw the previous day was not working (she failed to tell my wife that) and that we are seeing a new. That's fine also, but when this new doctor walks in, he acts like it is our first visit. My first thought was, "did you read my sons file"? I guess it was his also because he excused himself to get the file. When he returned, he tells us that the doctor or whoever was supposed to enter the information into the system from the previous day did not enter it yet. The result - this guy had no information about our son's visit. He didn't even know what type of tests were performed on our son or what shots had been administered. And of course, the results of the tests, which was one of the main reasons why we returned, were not there. To make it even better, he starts telling us a couple of things that the doctor from the previous day should have done and how he would have done things differently, like send our son to the hospital for monitoring. Little stuff I guess. WTF!!!!

So since this guy is working on a blank file, he takes our son, plants his scope on him, probes his ears and tells us his fever has gone down, something we obviously already knew, and sends us on our way. Wonderful! WTF!!!!!

It's been almost a week and we have not heard an apology nor have we received any type of test result. Oh yeah.........our deductible of $30.00 per visit - -wasted. WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I guess that's how they "Thrive."

Imagine living in a warzone

Recently, me, my wife and a close friend of ours were in San Francisco, CA to watch the Red Bull Air Race and the Blue Angles Air Show. Those shows are something to see live, but that is not why I am writing this blog.

We arrived on the evening of Thursday, October 6th. The next day, we walked the city as tourists do, poking our heads into shops and looking for little boutiques to carry munkiy products. As we approached the famous Pier 39, the Blue Angels started their practice runs.

We stopped walking on some street that I cannot recall the name of and watched as the six planes blazed through the sky. The planes kept the skies roaring, but at times were not to be seen. Not to be seen until they were right on top of us, rumbling everything around us and then suddenly banking turns, flashing themselves between the buildings. The action was impressive and amazing. As I watched, there was a great feeling I had knowing that these were the types of machines keeping me and my family safe.

When we returned to our hotel that night, I turned on the television and started flipping through the channels. I stopped on the news because there was an update on the War in Iraq. Of course, it was another report of some car bomb exploding. As I watched the story, I started thinking about those planes we watched earlier. It made me think about the civilians in Iraq. I tried to imagine what those civilians were going through the day as the US and allied forces began raining missiles and bombs on Iraq. I pictured those Blue Angel Jets roaring right above me, but this time, they were dropping bombs and then banking away. Yeah..impressive.....this time it was a different kind of impressive. WOW. How horrific that must have been for those people to see the buildings around them get torn apart. What would I do? Where would I go? And when those jets fly by, you don't hear them until the last second and that last second is probably too late.

I bet most people living in the US don't even bother about worrying about this type of thing happening to them. I know I didn't. But take a second to imagine you and your family living in a region of fighting. What do you think your daily routine would be when you know that your way to work is a warpath? If you have children, how worried would you be? How long would you be able to put up with the sound of sirens? How would you feel if the buildings that you looked at every morning on your way to work were no longer there? .................................When you're done taking that second, know how lucky you are to be able to read this and shrug it off.
